This three-dimensional artwork features a vintage style blueprint of the huge Lovell radio telescope at Jodrell Bank Observatory near Manchester, UK. The artwork is created by layering 1/8" (3mm) laser cut wood over a printed background. Underneath the blueprint of the telescope is a raised tag with the words 'Lovell Telescope, Jodrell Bank Observatory".



The Lovell Telescope was the largest movable radio telescope in the world when it was constructed back in 1957, today it is still in operation but ranked as the third largest. During its more than 60 years of operation it has helped astronomers better understand the universe, observing distant stars, pulsars and quasars, while also tracking numerous Soviet and early NASA missions, including Sputnik, Pioneer 5 and Luna 9. The telescope has also been used for SETI observations.

This multi-layered scientific artwork is both interesting and stylish. It would make a great gift for astronomers, astrophysicists or as eye-catching astronomy decor for the home!
